As a parent, the number one goal is ensuring your child is safe and happy during all stages of their life. Early childhood education is a critical time in your child’s life, and ensuring they get enrolled in the best center for their needs is a must. So, to ensure confidence in your selection, Wollaston Child Care suggests you consider the following. After speaking with us, of course!

Is the program NAEYC accredited?

Accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children demonstrates that the program commits to following best practices in Early Childhood Education.  To achieve accreditation, the center underwent a rigorous self-study. The study examines a variety of aspects of program quality including interactions, health and safety, curriculum, assessment, indoor and outdoor environments, and leadership.

What is their approach to child guidance?

Inclusivity is key. Your child must feel accepted and cared for, especially outside of their home. Children can thrive when the expectations and approaches align with those used at home. Knowing how behavioral challenges get addressed and supported is critical.

What qualifications do staff members have?

After all, you want to be sure you send your child to people who know education inside and out. Ask them about their certifications, educational background, and experience. Make notes about what you require for your child. Then, be sure they have all you need.

Are the staff trained in First Aid and CPR?

Accidents happen. However, established protocols help make the ordeals easier. Children, especially, are accident-prone and need responsible adults on hand. A school’s staff know needs to know how to respond to a variety of emergencies.  If your child has a special health issue such as asthma or allergies, ask about their experience with these issues.

How long have they been in business?

A quality program needs plenty of time to get off of the ground. History plays a big part in qualifications and success. If a school is in business for a while, chances are they’re doing well!

How do they accommodate individual needs?

Inclusivity is key. Your child needs to feel accepted and cared for, especially outside of their home. If your child has a health, behavioral, cognitive or other special need, you need to communicate this with the school directly.  Let them know if he or she receives any specialized services or requires special accommodations.  If he or she requires extra care, ask the center about their policies. Ensure that they have what is necessary to ensure your child’s success.
