Keep Preschool Kids Engaged with These Summer Activities

Summer is a time for having fun and relaxing, taking trips, and making memories with your family. It’s nice to take it easy and have some time off, but your kids’ learning and development don’t take a break just because it’s summer. Summertime does, however, present lots of opportunities to keep preschool kids engaged while having fun.

Here are three fun activities you can do with your preschool kids to keep them engaged this summer.

Scavenger Hunt

A scavenger hunt is a great activity to do outside, but you can also bring it inside on a rainy day. It’s a game you can play to work on numbers, colors, letters, or shapes. You can hide specific objects around your yard or home, or just make a list of parameters and find everything you can that fits. For example, you can do an alphabet scavenger hunt where the kids have to find something that starts with each letter of the alphabet. You can also do the same with numbers, colors, and shapes.

Sand Volcano

Making a baking soda and vinegar volcano is something every kid should do at least once, but it can get pretty messy. The easy solution is to do it outside, whether you’re on the beach or in your own sandbox. All you need is a bucket or empty cup, baking soda, vinegar, and food coloring. Place the bucket or cup right side up on the ground and then form the sand around it into a volcano shape. Put 1 to 2 cups of baking soda in the bucket and then pour in the vinegar and watch the volcano erupt! To make it colorful, add some food coloring to the vinegar. And you don’t have to use red; have fun with your kids’ favorite colors.

Seashell Painting

Every family has had the experience of taking a trip to the beach and coming back with a pile of seashells that the kids insisted on bringing home. But once you bring them home, what do you do with them? Paint with them, of course! Get a big piece of paper and put some paint on paper plates. Pick out shells with different shapes and textures and see what shapes they make when you use them as stamps on the paper. Make designs, patterns, and pictures using your seashells as painting tools!
