Sidewalk Chalk
Who doesn’t have cherished memories of playing with sidewalk chalk on a sunny day? You probably already have a box of chalk somewhere in your home, and if not, it’s inexpensive and easy to find. Playing with chalk is a great way to practice fine motor skills with kids and reinforce learning letters and numbers. You can also draw collaborative pictures, trace shadows, or set up simple games like hopscotch. The only limit is your imagination when you have a box of chalk and the blank canvas of your driveway.
Bubbles
Blowing bubbles is one of those activities that is incredibly simple, but fun every time. You can buy bubble solution or make your own and turn this basic outdoor activity into a little science experiment. Play with the ratio of soap to water, or use different types of soap to find out what combination works best and how it affects the bubbles. Blowing bubbles is a fun way to introduce kids to scientific concepts like surface tension and light refraction.
Rock Painting
If you need an activity you can do inside or outside, rock painting is the perfect idea. On a nice day, you can collect rocks with good surfaces for painting so you have something to do on a rainy day. If you have younger children who make a bit of a mess during arts and crafts, you can also just paint outside. When you’re finished, you can display your kids’ creations at home or place them around your neighborhood to spread a little joy!
