For many children, preschool is one of their first opportunities to spend time with peers their own age regularly. Building The Heart
Some of the most valuable lessons happen during ordinary moments.
Children often want the same toy and feel frustrated when they have to wait their turn. However, with caregiver guidance, they can learn to pause, communicate their feelings, and manage that frustration instead of giving in to potential meltdowns.
The goal is also to teach children how to recognize emotions in others. When a classmate laughs, cries, or becomes upset, children begin to understand that other people have feelings, too. They may even respond with kindness by giving a toy, sharing, or checking on their friend.
To create a sense of belonging, we lead by example in what a strong community looks like. When children know they have trusted teachers and familiar friends around them, they can feel more secure and confident as they tackle new experiences.
Children naturally observe those around them. Their peers become role models, showing them different ways to respond to excitement, disappointment, anger, and happiness.
