Every year, on the second Sunday of June, we celebrate National Children’s Day. This year, it falls on June 9th. Kids brighten the days of the adults around them, especially their parents and childcare providers, so it’s nice to take a day to acknowledge how important children are to their families and communities. At Wollaston Child Care Center, we see every day how special and unique every child is, and we’re happy to set aside a day to celebrate them.

Share Activities from Your Childhood
Is there an experience from your childhood you wish your kids could share? Maybe it’s a special place you went to or a game you played that you hold as a fond memory. If it’s a place that’s close to your home, take a day trip. If it’s a game you played when you were the same age your kids are now, play it with them. Most older board games are still possible to track down, even if they’re out of print. Of course, nothing will be exactly as you remember it from your childhood, but it’s an opportunity to create new memories with your children.
Visit a Children’s Museum
Kids love hands-on activities, and a children’s museum is a great place to play and learn at the same time. Take a trip to the Boston Children’s Museum, which has exhibits and activities for kids of all ages. They also have plenty of ideas for at-home activities if your family isn’t up for a trip into Boston for the day.
Learn About Their Interests
Many children have something they love and want to learn everything about it that they can. Whether it’s dinosaurs, submarines, bugs, cars, or something more obscure, spend a day learning about your child’s special interest. Go to your local library or look up kid-friendly resources online. Your child will love spending time with you learning about their favorite subject, and you’ll probably learn something new, too!
