3 Summer Activities That Are Technically Educational

Summer is a time to relax and have fun, but you can’t put early childhood education completely on hold. While our kids enjoy the summer break as much as we do, it’s important to ensure that they continue to learn. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! There are plenty of activities you can do with your kids this summer that they won’t even realize are educational. You’ll have fun doing them, too, so you may even forget that you’re supposed to be learning with these activities!

Have fun and continue your kids’ early childhood education this summer with these activities.

Outdoor Art

There’s never a wrong time to make some artwork with your kids, but summer provides plenty of opportunities for creativity. Because the weather is nice, you can set up outside so you don’t have to worry about making a mess. Pull out all your messiest art supplies and set up on the driveway or in the backyard. You can also incorporate nature into your artwork by using things like leaves, flower petals, cool rocks, or whatever else you can find.

Science Experiments

There’s no shortage of science experiments you can do with items you have around the house. If you’re looking for ideas, National Geographic Kids has a bunch of easy experiments for kids of all ages. You can make your own lava lamp, shrink a marshmallow, watch colors explode in milk, observe underwater life, and so much more. Not only will you have a ton of fun watching things seemingly magically transform before your eyes, but you’ll also encourage your kids to explore STEM subjects on their own.

At-Home Olympics

The Paris Olympics start in a few days, so it’s a great time to remind your kids (and yourself) that staying active is just as important as exercising your brain. Get outside and get moving with your own at-home Olympics! Make Olympic rings out of your favorite craft supplies and set up a couple of simple events. Running races are the simplest to set up, and you can encourage healthy competition or personal improvement. Kids can, of course, race against each other, or each child can attempt to beat their personal best. The point is to get moving and have fun, so formal competition should always take a backseat.
